Man rescued after jumping from Edison Bridge in Fort Myers

Lee County, FL — A man was rescued from the Caloosahatchee River after he jumped from the northbound side of the Edison Bridge in Fort Myers.

Fort Myers Fire and Lee County EMS crews responded to the incident at 9:14 AM Tuesday morning.

Multiple witnesses reported seeing the man jump and called 911.

A Fort Myers Police boat was quickly mobilized and officers safely removed the man from the water.

FMPD confirms he was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

Officers at the scene could be seen pulling a bicycle up a ladder to the top of the bridge.

FMPD could not confirm or determine what the man's intentions were by jumping.

The scene has since cleared.
