4:15 AM — The Florida Highway Patrol has provided an update on the head-on crash involving a wrong-way driver that left a woman dead Sunday night.
The wrong-way driver, an 86-year-old Cape Coral man, was driving his white SUV southbound in the northbound lanes prior to the crash.
The not-at-fault vehicle, a red SUV being driven by a 56-year-old Bradenton woman, was traveling northbound on I-75, south of the white SUV.
The vehicles then collided head-on, critically injuring the woman.
She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
FHP reports that her next-of-kin has not yet been notified.
Multiple witnesses to the crash reported seeing FHP pursuing the wrong-way driver prior to the crash.
He reportedly sustained minor injuries and it is unknown if he will be facing criminal charges.
Just after 2:00 AM Monday morning, a second unrelated vehicle crash on the southbound off-ramp at the 141 MM of I-75 left a male driver in his 20s seriously injured after crashing into multiple palm trees and becoming entrapped in his vehicle.
All lanes of I-75 have been reopened since the crash.

Lee County, FL — One person has died and another has been injured after a head-on crash in the northbound lanes of the I-75 Luckett Road overpass in Fort Myers.
Tice Fire and Lee County EMS crews responded to the crash at 8:56 PM Sunday evening.
The female occupant of the red SUV was transported in cardiac arrest to Gulf Coast Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
The approximately 63-year-old male occupant of the second vehicle was transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries.
All northbound lanes of I-75 are shut down at the Luckett Rd exit.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
