Firefighter struck by vehicle while working crash on I-75 in North Fort Myers

Lee County, FL — A Bayshore Fire Rescue firefighter has been injured after being struck by a vehicle while working a crash involving a vehicle that struck and killed a bear at the 144 mile marker of I-75 NB in North Fort Myers.

Bayshore Fire Rescue, Tice Fire and Lee County EMS crews responded to the incident at 9:01 PM Sunday night.

At 9:15 PM crews advised that a firefighter had been struck by a vehicle.

Initial reports indicate the vehicle was traveling at approximately 20-25 MPH at the time the firefighter was struck.

All northbound lanes of I-75 were immediately shutdown but one lane of traffic is now moving along the shoulder.

The injured firefighter has been transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
