12:09 AM — The Cape Coral Police Department has provided a full report on the fatal crash that killed 15-year-old Kendra Ahrens on July 31st in Cape Coral.
According to CCPD, Ahrens was traveling north on the left sidewalk (against southbound traffic) of Santa Barbara Boulevard, approaching Mid Cape Terrace.
A white box truck was facing a red light in the #1 left turn lane of Mid Cape Terrace to cross Santa Barbara Boulevard to head north.
As Ahrens began to enter the crosswalk on her bicycle, the left turn light changed to green.
Ahrens then continued down the crosswalk in the immediate path of the box truck as it began to accelerate.
Ahrens was then struck by the truck and ejected from her bicycle.
Due to the size of the truck, the driver did not notice the initial impact and proceeded through the intersection, passing the crosswalk.
Ahrens was then struck by the front left tire and then dragged by the rear left dual tires.
She came to rest behind the truck and was pronounced dead on the scene.
Reports confirm that Ahrens failed to obey traffic signals and yield right-of-way as the pedestrian signal was displaying a red stop hand when she crossed.
No charges have been filed against the driver of the box truck.

Lee County, FL — A child has been killed after she was struck by a US Mail box truck while riding her bicycle at Santa Barbara Boulevard and Mid Cape Terrace in Cape Coral.
Cape Coral Fire and Lee County EMS crews responded to the crash at 2:39 PM Wednesday.
A CCPD supervisor confirmed that the victim is a minor, but couldn't state her exact age as next-of-kin hadn't yet been notified.
Southbound lanes of Santa Barbara Blvd are shut down at SE 2nd St.
The Cape Coral Police Department is investigating.
